Yarnton, Oxfordshire

A client bought a listed arts and crafts house by C.R.Ashbee built in 1903. It was run down and lacked a good kitchen and family room space. Somewhat surprisingly the planners allowed a large extension that occupied the orginal walled kitchen yard which linked the house to the old coal store outbuilding. The extension provided a small bedroom in part of the roof and a vaulted ceiling over the kitchen area with the preserved outbuilding converted to a utility room/bootspace. The extension provided a large, light and airy space wrapped around a south facing patio area and was designed to be in keeping with the house.
